As an Engineering Manager on Aptive’s Engineering team, you will help drive the technical direction and delivery of our solutions, platform, and products. This ideal candidate will have experience building software platforms and compute infrastructure at scale, expertise around emerging technologies, and will know how to develop the right products around the needs of internal and external customers.

Compensation: 160k-165k + 10% manager bonus

Responsibilities:

  • Be able to operate as a Senior-level developer 

  • Work with an architecture guild to propose, test, implement and evangelize solid architecture design for Aptive 

  • Responsible for team’s technical metrics (agile delivery, application, and service KPIs)

  • Work with Scrum Master to help prioritize tasks assigned and distribution across the team

  • Manage technical debt backlog and articulate value to Product Owner to help prioritize amongst business features 

  • Motivate and Manage individual team members’ performance 

  • Help communicate risks, dependencies, and mitigation plan 

  • Helps balance feature delivery with stability, technical debt, and code quality.

  • Able to drive consistency in development and quality processes and standards

  • Identify roadblocks to remove impediments for team members 

  • Work directly with other engineering managers, UX teams, product managers, and Scrum teams when needed for research and development of novel solutions to technical problems. 

  • Manage change to support teams to rapidly deliver stable, high-performing, and reliable code (requires frequent interaction with teams by teleconference) 

  • Identify opportunities for training, improve development processes, and help build great delivery teams. 

  • Drive the implementation of product features through stages of planning, execution, and review. 

  • Measures of Success 

  • Holds their team accountable, and are involved enough in the details to be ready to intervene, to ensure conformity with company coding and architecture standards, and their team’s productivity for the maturity and success of the products.

  • Regularly assess team’s performance (sprint velocity, burn down, bugs, reactivation rates) and retrospectives (improve estimation, committed vs delivered) for continuous improvement 

  • Report team progress metrics for up-to-date reports to senior leadership.

  • An ideal team player-humble, hungry, smart-who maintains excellent communications and relationships with all. 

  • Monitors and directs improvement to the efficiency of the team's code, and stability of products-spend 50% of time on the improvement of code and schema architecture.

  • Timeliness of releases within each sprint 

  • Peer reviews 

Qualifications: 

  • Advanced degree in Computer Science or related Engineering field

Requirements:

  • 5+ years of industry experience 

  • 2 years of minimum experience leading engineering organizations. 

  • Prior development experience with PHP, MySQL, Javascript 

  • Experience working on distributed services 

  • Scrum Agile experience 

  • Hands-on engineering experience and experience leading technical projects

  • Prior experience using AI technology, including GitHub CoPilot Agent, Claude, ChatGPT, Cursor
